The mayor of Zalamea
Original title: El alcalde de Zalamea
Synopsis
The mayor of Zalamea tells the story of Spanish soldiers in war with Portugal who stop in Zalamea. The noble Captain Alvaro de Ataide, under the command of the soldiers, is housed in the house of the rich farmer, Pedro Crespo, whose daughter seduces and ultraja. Pedro tries to remedy dishonor and offers goods to Don Álvaro to marry Isabel. Alvaro's rejection offends the honor of Pedro, who is then elected mayor of Zalamea and makes Don Álvaro executed. At the end of the work, King Philip II ratified Peter's decision and appointed him the perpetual mayor of Zalamea.
