Corsaries of Levante

Original title: Corsarios de Levante
Not started 2006 Adventures Spanish 187 pp.

Synopsis

For almost two years I served with Captain Alatriste in the galleys of Naples. That is why I will now talk about skirmishes, corsaries, approaches, massacres and looting. Thus will your mercies know how the name of my country was respected, feared and hated also in the seas of Levante. I will tell that the devil has no color, no nation, no flag; and how, to create hell in the sea or on earth, they were necessary only a Spanish and the edge of a sword. In that, as in almost everything, it would have been better for us to do what others, more attentive to prosperity than to reputation, opening up to the world we had discovered and enlarged, instead of getting in the sodas of the real confessors, the privileges of blood, the little dedication to work, the cross and the sword, while the intelligence, the homeland and the soul would rot. But no one allowed us to choose. At least, for the sake of history, we were able to charge it to the world, slapping it until we left one standing. Your mercies will say that that is lean comfort, and they are right.
