The patience of the spider
Original title: La pazienza del ragno
Synopsis
In this seventeenth delivery of the series, Salvo Montalbano is in bed, convalescent of the wounds received in his last case. The Commissioner is confused, the weight of the years overwhelms him and a heartbreaking melancholy leads him to question the ultimate sense of justice and the "law," to which he has dedicated his entire career.
In such a state Montalbano is found when he is informed of the abduction of young Susanna Mistretta, and while the investigations are the matter of Commissioner Minutolo, something makes him jump out of bed. It may be the need to prove itself that it still retains all its ability to react, or perhaps the unusual circumstances of the kidnapping, since the young woman's family had lost all its fortune years ago in a sudden and mysterious way.
