Twenty thousand leagues of underwater travel
Original title: Vingt mille lieues sous les mers
Synopsis
The work was first narrated by French professor Pierre Aronnax, a remarkable biologist who is taken prisoner by Captain Nemo and is led by the oceans on board the Nautilus submarine, in the company of his servant Conseil and the Canadian arponer Ned Land. The story begins with an expedition on board a U.S. Navy ship that seeks to hunt down a strange cetacean that had caused the mysterious disappearance of various ships. During the expedition, the protagonists are thrown off the ship as a result of an animal onslaught, rescued and able to swim to a safe place.
